Companies such as Amazon and FedEx are responsible for shipping a high volume of packages. Delivery professionals are needed to fill orders quickly and ensure customers are happy and remain loyal. Did you know a delivery driver is not only responsible for delivering packages? Some drivers are also required to package the items and load the boxes onto the truck.

In order to be successful at this job, you must ensure that packages arrive on time and are in proper condition. You need to have customer service skills which include effective communication and a positive attitude. Basic mathematical skills, attention to detail, and a good sense of direction will help you excel. In addition, a clean driving record is a requirement. Some positions may require a commercial driver’s license (CDL) depending on the type of vehicle that will be driven. A CDL is a special license required to drive large trucks. If you need your CDL, work with your job coach as he/she may know of low-cost or free training, or have it paid through the agency.

If you enjoy interacting with others frequently and a job that is fast-paced, a delivery driver may be for you.
